Project Summary

In partnership with Keep High Point Beautiful program and State Employees Credit Union, Keep North Carolina Beautiful joined over ??? SECU employees and members to assist in cleaning up unsightly and hazardous litter from MLK Jr. Drive in High Point, NC.

Supporting beautification efforts in High Point, with a focus on litter removal along major corridors, plays a vital role in maintaining both the aesthetic and environmental health of our community. Litter not only detracts from the appearance of our surroundings but poses serious environmental risks, as it often travels via wind or rain into creeks, streams, and larger water bodies. In High Point, Oak Hollow Lake and City Lake serve as primary water sources, supplying treated drinking water to our community. However, these bodies of water also support extensive wildlife and biodiversity, which rely on a clean environment to thrive.

Biodiversity is fundamental to the systems that sustain all life on Earth, including human life. A diverse range of plants, animals, and microorganisms is crucial to maintaining healthy ecosystems that provide the air we breathe and the food we eat. By prioritizing litter removal and environmental stewardship, we help protect the natural processes that support a sustainable future.
